About the Role

Our client, a manufacturing and distribution company located in Saint-Hyacinthe, is seeking a Senior Systems Administrator for a permanent position.

The position holder is responsible for the architecture, operations and evolution of the company's systems infrastructure. They ensure the availability, performance, security and resilience of Windows and Linux environments, virtualization platforms, storage and backup and disaster recovery solutions.

In a context of infrastructure modernization and VMware exit, they play a key role in defining the technology target, planning and executing migrations, and in standardizing and automating operations.

Acting as a technical reference, they support the IT team, collaborate on architecture decisions and provide expert-level support to the company's various sites across Canada and the United States.

Responsibilities

Architecture, Virtualization and Modernization

  • Administer and evolve virtualization environments (Hyper-V and VMware): clusters, virtual networks, storage, templates and policies.
  • Design and lead the VMware exit strategy: impact analysis, migration scenarios, selection criteria, planning and estimates.
  • Plan and execute workload migrations (VMs, services, dependencies) with a controlled approach (windows, rollback plans, validations).
  • Optimize platform performance and capacity (CPU, memory, storage, network).

Systems Operations (Windows & Linux)

  • Ensure advanced administration of Windows Server and Linux environments (AD, DNS, DHCP, GPO, certificates, critical services).
  • Manage production changes: planning, communication, execution and validation.
  • Diagnose and resolve complex incidents (level 3), including root cause analysis (RCA).

Backup, Recovery and Resilience

  • Define, maintain and evolve backup and restoration strategies (retention, immutability, periodic testing).
  • Define and document recovery objectives (RTO/RPO) and ensure compliance.
  • Implement proactive monitoring: alerts, capacity and reliability reviews.

Security and Compliance

  • Apply and promote security best practices: hardening, access management, MFA, segmentation and patching.
  • Contribute to security assessments and risk reduction.
  • Ensure controlled updates of systems, hypervisors and firmware, with traceability.

Automation, Standardization and Documentation

  • Automate recurring operations (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, etc.).
  • Define and maintain technical standards (naming conventions, master images, reference configurations).
  • Produce clear, useful and maintainable documentation (procedures, diagrams, inventories).

Collaboration and Technical Leadership

  • Act as a technical reference and mentor for the IT team.
  • Collaborate with network, application and manufacturing teams.
  • Participate in project planning, technical reviews and architecture decisions.

Required Profile

  • Excellent command of Windows Server and Linux environments.
  • Solid understanding of network protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN) and storage technologies (SAN, NAS).
  • Confirmed experience in critical virtualized environments.
  • Strong analytical capacity, complex problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration and communication skills.
  • Autonomy, organizational sense and effective priority management.
  • Occasional availability outside normal working hours (evening / weekend).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Concrete experience with VMware exit (Hyper-V, Azure Stack HCI, KVM/Proxmox, Nutanix AHV).
  • Cloud or hybrid experience (Azure, AWS), Entra ID / Azure AD, Intune, SSO.
  • Advanced automation / Infrastructure as Code (PowerShell, Ansible, Terraform, Git).
  • Containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Relevant certifications (Microsoft, VMware, Linux, security).
  • Programming knowledge in C/AL (Business Central).

Working Conditions

  • Occasional availability for planned or emergency interventions (evening / weekend).
  • Occasional travel to sites (based on projects and operational needs).
  • Strategic and technical role with strong autonomy and influence on architecture decisions.
  • Minimum 3 days per week on-site at Saint-Hyacinthe offices.
