About the Role

Trans Mountain is seeking a motivated person focused on collaboration and values to join our dynamic team as an Instrumentation Technician. In this position, you will play a key role in providing instrumentation, operational, and emergency response support in a multifaceted work environment that promotes public safety, environmental stewardship, and pipeline integrity.

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate strong technical expertise in instrument calibration, troubleshooting, control systems, and maintenance documentation. This position offers the opportunity to support the safe and reliable operation of essential pipeline and terminal infrastructure while working closely with Operations, Maintenance, and other technical groups.

The Instrumentation Technician will work on an 8.58-hour schedule, Monday to Friday (day shift), with every other Friday off. Overtime may be available. This position will be based at the Edmonton Terminal and will report to the Director, Edmonton Terminal and Control Centre.

Key Responsibilities

  • Install, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain process instruments, communication networks, and control equipment, including flow computers, tank gauging systems, custody transfer controllers, and related systems.
  • Use drawing and electrical and instrumentation schematic sets; update as-built documentation as needed.
  • Support programming and troubleshooting of local operator interfaces and programmable logic controllers, with Rockwell PLC and HMI software as Trans Mountain's current standard.
  • Provide support and maintenance of instruments to ensure equipment and system reliability.
  • Perform and document instrument maintenance tasks as defined by maintenance tracking software.
  • Analyse, interpret, and apply information from data acquisition and control systems, human-machine interfaces, and piping and instrumentation diagrams to ensure safe facility operations.
  • Support emergency response initiatives, including required training, participation in exercises, and scenarios.
  • Provide operational support to ensure system flow and reliability.
  • Support vessel mooring and start-up activities.
  • Assist other technical groups, including Maintenance and Operations, as needed.
  • Monitor and track contractor performance.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma.
  • Red Seal Instrumentation Technician certification (required).
  • At least 3 to 5 years of experience in the sector.
  • Experience or knowledge of process control and hydro-electric testing (asset).
  • Understanding of Canadian Electrical Code requirements (asset).
  • Commissioning and start-up experience (asset).
  • Demonstrated commitment to personal safety, protection of company assets, and public safety.
  • Availability to participate in on-call rotation as needed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Excellent English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality work, manage competing priorities, and support key operational processes or functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and levels within an organization.
  • Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey information in a clear, respectful, and professional manner.
  • Proven organizational skills and ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to inclusive practices and willingness to contribute positively to a culture of collaboration and support in the workplace.

Working Conditions

  • You must possess a valid Class 5 driver's license.
  • You may be required to work outside normal office hours or on weekends.
