The Role
Position: Financial Analyst, Cost Allocation (Contract)

Trans Mountain is seeking a motivated, collaborative person aligned with our values to join our dynamic team as a Financial Analyst, Cost Allocation (Contract). The selected person will be responsible for maintaining and optimizing the organization's cost allocation model. This role ensures that shared services costs, overhead, and operational costs are properly allocated across projects and operating units. The analyst will work closely with finance, operations, and management teams to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
Main Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and improve cost allocation models for budgeting and forecasting cycles.
- Process monthly cost allocations and prepare monthly journal entries, including updating allocations and project codes.
- Analyse cost trends, variances, and allocation impacts to support budgeting and forecasting cycles.
- Prepare annual actual cost allocation adjustments using actual hours and costs incurred.
- Ensure accuracy and integrity of financial data used in allocation processes; collaborate with data owners to resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare monthly and ad hoc reports on allocations, dashboards, and summaries. Respond to questions related to cost allocation.
- Ensure allocation methods comply with internal policies, audit requirements, and industry standards.
Qualifications and Experience
- Postsecondary diploma in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field.
- Three to five years of experience in financial analysis, cost accounting, financial analysis and planning, or similar roles.
- Solid understanding of cost allocation methodologies.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel, Power BI, ERP systems (Microsoft D365, SAP, Oracle, Workday, etc.).
- Ability to work with large datasets and translate complex financial concepts into clear insights.
- Experience in shared services environments or multi-entity organizations.
- Knowledge of D365, SQL, Power Query, or other data manipulation tools.
- Knowledge of budgeting and forecasting cycles.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and foster process improvement.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and good judgment in execution-focused and time-limited environments.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality work, manage competing priorities, and support key operational processes or functions.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with colleagues and stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and levels within an organization, with strong influencing skills.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to convey information in a clear, respectful, and professional manner.
- Proven organizational skills and ability to manage priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail in a dynamic environment.
